Summary: Leon magically animates a snowman. It goes badly.
A fill for
picture_prompt_fun and
fffc advent calendars, day 4
Leon admired his handiwork. Carving runes into a medium as soft and light as snow wasn't easy. The slightest breeze could blow away his work, or the heat slowly melt it out of shape. Then there was the interference in the flow of the magic from the vast amount of water elemental energy already emanating from the thing. Lastly, several additional shielding wards had needed to be placed around the structure, as there was no way for a thing made of snow to conceivably move around and talk without tearing itself to bits unless it was magically reinforced.
Satisfied that he had gotten every factor exactly right, that no disasters were possible, he walked over to the market stall where Precis would undoubtedly still be devouring chocolate crepes like a starving Bunny.
"Hey, I've got a surprise for you!" he announced smugly, "You know that snowman you made earlier?"
-----
Half an hour later, the screams could be heard from the snowy bank near the town gates, where the newly created monster flailed around its thorny limbs, snapping sharp icicle teeth and unleashing frozen breath upon the frantically running adventurers, to the deepest vaults of the Academy, where Chisato was totally not stealing sensitive documents. Realising that something was wrong and it was almost certainly something to do with the troublemakers she followed around collecting scoops like some kind of symbiotic organism, charged up her taser, dialed the special emergency number that made homing missiles happen and ran out of the front door. Meanwhile, Celine was casting Explode over and over again but could not quite reach temperatures high enough to break through the elemental wards placed by Hugo specifically to stop the snowman melting. Still screaming continuously, Precis was taking assorted mechanical devices out of her backpack and using her giant mechanical arm to smack them into the monster's head like an extreme version of ice hockey. Claude was just trying to stab the thing while Ashton argued with his dragons, one of whom wanted to eat it and the other who wanted to run away, both of them threatening to pull his arms out of his sockets and not letting him swing his swords in any sensible angle. It was all Rena and Noel could do to keep up with the healing as shards of ice tore through them all and grasping viny tentacles thrashed at them. Screaming over and over that it wasn't his fault, how could he possibly have known what would happen if he used that spell on a snowman and there weren't snowmen back home and this whole world was stupid, Leon desperately leafed through the arcane tome he had used to summon the possessing spirit, searching for the section on emergency exorcisms. Unfortunately, Ashton's dragons had a habit of stealing books and eating any sections marked 'exorcisms'.
Fortunately, seconds later, Decus randomly teleported into the middle of Giveaway, spamming Spicule until everything was a charred pile of rubble, snowman and entire party included.
