She smiled. "This is nice."
The door to the Golden Hind slammed open, drawing every gaze, sending cold drafts into the golden light. The mousy little clerk standing in the doorway made Liliya blink. She had seen her before, scurrying about with paperwork. Now she looked enlarged with pure rage as she glared -- at Liliya and Magnus.
"YOU!" She took a step forward. "Who told you you could go gadding off like this?"
"When they were done with us," said Magnus. "They said we could go."
"And you took it as permission to go gadding off like you were still aspirants." She snorted. "Come AT ONCE."
Their dishes were not done. Still, Magnus pushed his away, wiping his face. Reluctantly, she rose to follow.
Outside the day was still gray. The puddles cast back their reflections.
