The room showed the artful casual approach. Puffy couches. A desk with chair, both looking antique. A stairway leading up a loft where a bed lay. He did not have to sleep on the couch. Vast windows forming one wall.
If he had been willing to sacrifice the luxury of living in the heart of Academy City, he could, of course, have gotten a much larger dwelling, with more furnishings.
Not much more, thought Liliya. In the heart of the city, the aspirants could see his room and know that, too, lay ahead if they too succeeded. Then she scowled. It might not work. Luxury was an odd bait for dedication.
