Hope stopped by the stalls. Her mother wouldn't get a chance to get to town. Some peaches and some nectarines, perhaps.
"Hey, Hope," called Wendy. "I heard that someone's going to get a booth to sell flowers."
"Let them," said Hope. "I'm too busy to planting to be a rival."
"I heard," said Wendy, "that he has a green thumb and can make flowers grow like nobody's business."
Hope opened her mouth, and then shut it again. Just because she hadn't given anyone such powers, didn't mean anyone else hadn't. For all she knew, the corporation might have done it. Then, demurely, "I hope the rumors about how green thumbs weaken plants by growing them too fast are false, then."
