Elisabetta drew a deep breath. "Then, let's go down to the village."
Rose-Lily nodded. And then, with a gesture so quick as to seem explosive, grabbed her hand.
Elisabetta did not pull away. Hand-in-hand, they walked down the path, past meadows bedecked with wild rose bushes, white all over from blossom, and alongside a stream thick with rushes and irises in purple bloom.
At the village edge, a man was painting, his brush coming out of the can with white on it. But when he painted, all sorts of colors flowed from it, making a mural of flowers and trees.
Their hands clutched each other with force.
