It was Christmas, and Mette-Marie loved going to her homeland of Norway to ski. The little town she was born in was like a fairy land this time of year. Lights sparkled, illuminating the endless nights, and each tiny shop had smells wafting from them; smells of cookies, candies, and candles. Each shop carried some edible goody since those always sold well.

Mette was Elijah’s lover and friend, and she had given him a son, at long last. She’d also taught him to swoosh down a steep hillside on skis, white snow spraying up behind him. It was good. It helped him to stop thinking, for now that he no longer was smoking cigarettes like a dragon, and now that Seanie was no longer present much in his life, he needed something to help him stay busy and stop thinking.
