Sonic CD - False Start
Title: False Start
An acrid jet of steam hit him in the face, scorching the ends of his quills slightly. The ozone stench in the air told him immediately that he'd still failed, still needed to go back, even more he opened his eyes and spluttered, taking in the bleak landscape, mostly grey mist and dead trees, along with the rusted skeletons of some abandoned project's machinery. That was what always struck him: the False Future looked less openly malicious and more simply exhausted and discarded. With a running start, he sprang onto the first thing that moved - it was invariably a murderously out-of-control industrial robot - then used the momentum to propel himself over a spike pit, onto a ramp, towards the faint emerald glitter, a sign he hoped was the chaotic surge of energy that preceded a time warp, his ticket out of here, and to his one remaining chance.
