"So, how do you like the Crossbell bus service?" asked Juna.

"It's a welcome change of pace," said Rean, smiling, "The trams in Heimdallr get overcrowded and people aren't friendly to each other during rush hour. The scenery's nice, too. We're going to a mining town out in the mountains, right?"

"Yes... you have an answer prepared for everything, don't you?" she frowned, "I meant that it must be disappointing for you Erebonians compared to all your swanky trains going all over the continent."

The tutor cleared his throat, shifting uncomfortably. He should have spotted the attempt to goad him before it got anywhere near him. Taking her back to Crossbell on a field trip had been a profoundly bad idea. The already fragile balance of a delicate situation had been thoroughly shaken from side to side and suddenly every problem he'd had with her was multiplied by a factor of around ten.

"These days I mostly have to go on military trains and I don't like them any more than anyone else," said Rean, "I want to go on a bus like a normal person more often."

"I prefer the train," muttered Kurt, "I can't read on a bus. It jostles me from side to side and I feel motion sick."

"Curia tablets'll fix that," said Ash.

"Don't waste the Curia tablets," Rean warned him reflexively, "Anyway, you're supposed to be experiencing the world around you, so I suggest looking out of the window. You can read in the library back at school. Ash, that goes for you too, please stop falling asleep. You're technically still on the job."

"'M conserving energy," he yawned and stretched, before folding his arms back over his head and staring out of the window. Rean could already see his eyelids droop five seconds later.

"Personally, I like the bumpy ride," Musse drawled, managing to make the last two words sound as obscene as possible, "Whenever it hits something hard and I get all jostled, it sends vibrations up my..."

"Everyone watch out for our stop," said Rean, "And someone keep an eye on that Gordi following the bus. This thing isn't monster proof!"
